Join the Campaign to Build Power and Food Justice in Central Brooklyn
Brooklyn Movement Center (BMC) is a membership-led, direct-action, community organizing body based in Central Brooklyn (Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights and the surrounding area). We bring together residents to identify important issues in their lives, win concrete improvements in their community, and build collective power.
One of BMC’s areas of work is food sovereignty. Specifically, 30 or so members of the community have come together to establish a food cooperative that will be owned and operated by the people of Central Brooklyn. By establishing a community-based, member-run food cooperative, we can make it convenient and affordable to buy good food, while strengthening ties between our neighbors.
This summer we have been involved in a major outreach effort to expand the membership base of the future food cooperative and gather important information about local food needs. In order to continue our outreach effort, we are calling on you and other Central Brooklyn residents, particularly people of color, to join our outreach campaign.
The first step is to attend the outreach training on September 4th from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. Then, help us lead the outreach and survey campaign until end of October.
Join us in our effort to build a healthy, sustainable, and equitable food system in our community!
If you have further questions, concerns, or thoughts before signing up for the survey training session, you can contact Harvir Kaur (Food Sovereignty Organizer) at (718) 771-7000.
